BOMBINO
presenting his new album AZEL
Live at THE FORGE CAMDEN
8 & 9 JUNE 2016 - 7:30PM

Two exclusive London concerts of the "Tuareggae" star have just been announced.
Bombino will perform at the Forge Camden on the 8th and 9th of June, presenting his third studio album Azel. For the release of Azel, he has shared a video with his fans (below) for album track "Inar" and an interview with Rolling Stone.

Fans of Bombino and Tuareg music in general will notice a few remarkable innovations on this album. The first is the introduction of a new style Bombino is pioneering that he affectionately calls 'Tuareggae' - a sunny blend of Tuareg blues/rock with reggae one-drop and bounce. Another is the first-ever use of Western vocal harmonies in recorded Tuareg music (due to Longstreth's influence), which give the songs new depth and colour. Finally, the band behind him is tighter and more energetic than ever before. The result is Bombino's best, most well-rounded, and groundbreaking album to date: Azel.

From Uncut's review on Bombino's new album Azel

Bombino's reasoning is fairly simple: "I love reggae music,", he states, "it makes me instantly happy... it is just another influence that has come into my music as it evolves in the same way that Western rock music mixes with Tuareg music in other songs that I play."

MOJO's review on Bombino's new album Azel

by David Hutcheon

It turns out this Tuareg is a lover, not a fighter.Recorded in Woodstock, the Tuareg guitarist's third official international album - there have been at least three more that have slipped across the Niger border - finds him maturing rapidly. Far less beholden to rigorous structures than Tinariwen, he is more likely to find a groove and jam the hell out of it (Iyat Ninhay), introduce an outside influence (Timtar comes from the genre its creator has dubbed "Tuareggae"), or add drums and harmonies to give his songs an unexpected kick. It's also noticeable that, while not averse to the shredding of his earliest recordings, he is more inclined to pick up an acoustic and weave something delicate: while one song title translates as Martyrs Of The Firs Rebellion, three - If You Know The Degree Of My Love For You, My Lover and My Love, I Tell You - reveal a definite romantic side.
